Prominent American politician, Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Senator Richard Burr in unprecedented statement expressed his concern regarding the real causes of President Donald Trump’s stunning firing of FBI Director James Comey. “I am troubled by the timing and reasoning of Director Comey’s termination”, Senator Burr stated. Republican said that he have found Director Comey to be a public servant of the highest order. “His dismissal further confuses an already difficult investigation by the Committee,” Senator warned.
President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Republicans and Democrats will soon “be thanking me” for firing FBI Director James Comey. Trump tweeted in the morning that Comey had “lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike.” He added: “when things calm down, they will be thanking me!”
American politicians from both sides of political scene were shocked and troubled by the news. Democrats likened the firing to President Richard Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre” and renewed calls for the appointment of a special prosecutor, and some Republicans also questioned the move.
“This is not what an innocent person would do. Firing the guy investigating RussianHacking – without cause – is consciousness of guilt”, Senior Democrat from House Intelligence Committee Representative Eric Swalvell commented. “I’ve spent the last several hours trying to find an acceptable rationale for the timing of Comey’s firing. I just can’t do it”, Republican Senator Jeff Flake from Arizona admitted.

Other Members of Congress were even more outspoken. “Firing Comey when he was out of town w/ no notice suggests there is something big that @POTUS [President Of The United States – ed.] did not want him to do or reveal”, Representative Ted Lieu from California Twitted.
Senior advisors and counsels to Presidents were also concerned about the situation. “House Judiciary should convene tomorrow morning to hold a hearing on abuse of power by the President”, Chief White House ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2007 Professor Richard W. Painter stated on his Tweeter.
Trump abruptly fired Comey Tuesday night. The surprise decision came amid the law enforcement agency’s investigation into whether Trump’s presidential campaign was connected to Russian meddling in the election.
In his letter to Comey, Trump said the firing was necessary to restore “public trust and confidence” in the FBI. The administration paired the letter with a scathing review by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein of how Comey handled the investigation into Democrat Hillary Clinton’s email practices.
FBI Director James Comey was speaking to agents at the FBI’s field office in Los Angeles when the news of his firing broke, according to a law enforcement official who was present at the time Tuesday. The official said television screens in the field office began flashing the news, and Comey initially chuckled. But he continued to speak to the agents, finishing his speech before heading into an office. He did not reappear in the main room. He immediately returned to Washington.
