Foreign Minister of Australia Julie Bishop discussing Israeli-Palestinian conflict said that Palestinians should recognize the existence of Israeli state. “What we need is for the Palestinians to recognize that the state of Israel exists and will continue to exist,” Ms. Bishop said in an interview with Sky News.

She also supported President Trump’s stance on the conflict that the first time in history did not include a creation of two-states for Israelis and Palestinians as a necessary outcome of the peace process.

Foreign Minister confirmed that Australia’s government is still supporting two-states but also said that it is open for other solutions the sides can accept.

If they can come up with another solution that they were prepared to live with that ensured that the Israelis and the Palestinians could live side by side, live together behind internationally recognized boundaries then of course the world should support that,” Bishop stated.

On Thursday Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull commenting on the new approach of Trump administration to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process said in an interview with the same television that his position is unchanged.

“There should be a two state solution negotiated with Israel and the Palestinian Authority (…) a two-state solution that will secure the interest and the security of both peoples”, Mr. Turnbull emphasized.
