The Government Security Service agents evacuated Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from the conference due to the smoke hazard in the hall during the “Open Innovations in Skolkovo” forum near Moscow.
Medvedev was surrounded by the security detail and hurried through the back door of the hall. The ministers of the government and high officials were also escorted outside the building. In the same time the moderators of the conference asked all of the participants to leave the hall.
The smoke in the hall was an effect of the fire that broke on the second floor of the building during the plenary session of the conference on the modernization of the Russian economy that was supposed to strengthen the Kremlin brand.
The embarassing incident was broadcasted by the Russian television channels around the country.
Russian news agencies TASS and Interfax also confirmed that the electrical system has malfunctioned at least one time during the earlier session when the lights and microphones were unexpectedly switched off. The Skolkovo specialists needed over twenty minutes to reconnect them, TASS reported.
The Internet connection in the hall has also been very slow.
The “Open Innovations in Skolkovo” forum is taking place at the technological park “Skolkovo” from October, 26th to 28th. The organizers of the forum expected 12,000 participants from over 100 countries. Russian government hopes to attract international investors, who fled country after Moscow waged war against Ukraine and annexed Crimea.
