New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio identified suspect linked to the Saturday evening’s bomb explosion in Manhattan and other bombs in New Jersey as Ahmad Khan Rahami. A 28-year old Afghan man is a naturalised U.S. citizen from New Jersey. Rahami is seen in surveillance video near the scene of the Manhattan bombing, the authorities said. Both the videos and cell phones used as power sources and timers in all three devices in New York and New Jersey led officials to him.

New York Police Department and FBI was questioning 5 stopped near Verazzano Bridge, the  double-decked suspension bridge in the U.S. state of New York that connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. Authorities would not tell whether individuals are linked to the explosions that took place in New York City or planting of the improvised bomb. Sources revealed to Perth Herald Tribune that both bombs placed in trash bins were pressure-cookers filled with pieces of metal. Both had a timing mechanism professionally manufactured.

Powerful bomb discovered in Elizabeth, New Jersey

While New York Police Intelligence has been investigating the explosion of the IED bomb in Chelsea, Manhattan on Saturday, this morning police in Elizabeth, New Jersey received a telephone call from men, who found improvised bombs.

Two men called police at 8.47 p,m. after they found suspicious backpack with a peep and the wires in a garbage can. Police immediately brought in the bomb squad. One of the bombs exploded after the FBI robots attempted to disarm it. The powerful blast damaged at least one robot and startled witnesses at the crime scene, but there were no reports of injuries.

“Based on the loudness, I think people could have been severely hurt or injured if they were in the vicinity if that went off,” Elizabeth Major Chris Bollwage said. “If that pub was crowded and there was a lot of people there, it could have severely injured, maimed or killed many, many people.”

“There is no threat to public safety as the package is being secured and investigated”, the Elizabeth Major emphasised.

Amtrak partially suspended its service in the area due to police activity, the company said in a statement. “Our customers are safe and trains have been brought into stations to allow passengers to disembark and seek alternate transportation. Amtrak apologizes for the inconvenience and will resume service as soon as it is safe to do so. No Amtrak trains are operating on the Northeast Corridor between New York and Trenton, NJ for the time.”

FBI made several arrests

New York State Sen. Marty Golden, citing the NYPD on her Instagram account, said the FBI nabbed several individuals “with a possible connection to the bombing” on the Belt Parkway near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Brooklyn at around 9:30 p.m.
